COLUMBUS, Ga. (AP) — Crews plan to blow up another dam on Tuesday to help create a man-made whitewater course on the Chattahoochee River.

Workers plan to blast a 100-foot section out of the City Mills Dam around 10:30 a.m., though the time could change depending on weather conditions. The Columbus Ledger-Enquirer reports that some streets in the area will close for the explosion.

The whitewater course, which is expected to attract adventurers from around the South, is set to open May 25.

The river forms the Alabama-Georgia state line and separates the downtown areas of Columbus and Phenix City, Ala.

Spectators will be allowed to watch the explosion from the 14th Street pedestrian bridge beginning at 9:45 a.m. Authorities say access to the bridge will only be available from the Alabama side.
