The Marietta Daily Journal’s editorial on the raises given county employees says that Commission Chairman Tim lee has said that last year’s tax hike had no bearing on the resulting surplus.
If this statement is accurate, I would conclude that either;
(1) the tax revenues from the “hike” have not been collected yet; in which case I would question the need for a tax hike, when the budget has a surplus. Or,
(2) someone is playing with semantics. Somehow the dollars collected from the tax hike are different from the dollars of the surplus. Something similar to Bill Clinton’s meaning of “is.”
Please help me understand this situation?
