MABLETON — A Cobb County woman has been charged with felony elderly cruelty after her mother was found dead.

Police say Bertha Terry, 53, abused her 78-year-old bedridden mother following an investigation that began when the victim was found dead on her bedroom floor in a Mableton home.

Terry’s mother was found with a “significant amount of fecal matter” on her, on her bed and in the floor around her, according to an arrest warrant.

Police say Terry refused to seek medical assistance when her mother fell on the floor Oct. 24.

Police also say she only gave her mother one 8-ounce bottle of Ensure, a nutritional drink, daily with glasses of water.

Terry told police, according to an arrest warrant, that she had for the last two weeks stopped providing her mother with necessary medications for her high blood pressure, dementia, Alzheimer’s disease and arrhythmia.

Terry was released on $5,000 bond Oct. 27, the same day of her arrest.
