Cobb Tax Commissioner announces retirement

Cobb Tax Commissioner Gail Downing announced she is retiring effective Dec. 31 to spend more time with her family. 
 
Her chief deputy, Carla Jackson, will be sworn into office on Dec. 30 by Chief Probate Judge Kelli Wolk as the new tax commissioner effective Jan. 1. 
 
Downing has been tax commissioner since 2002 and won reelections in 2004, 2008 and 2012. 
 
A reception in her honor will be held at 5 p.m. on Jan. 3 at the Whitlock Inn, 57 Whitlock Avenue, Marietta.
