The openings represent the latest milestone in the company’s development of a one-million-square-foot-facility the company is constructing in the Athens area. Workers will build tractors and excavators at the plant.
The company intends to fill about 30 positions in coming weeks, the Athens Banner-Herald reported.
The positions include fabricators, auditors, assemblers and others. The pay scale ranges from $11 to $20 per hour, depending on the position and the applicant’s experience, Caterpillar Human Resource Manager Mike White said.
“Your first round of assemblers and factory employees, they tend to be the ones who continue on their careers and move on and become leaders,” Operations Manager Todd Henry said.
“We typically see that first round of employees as really critical for our facility,” he added.
The facility is expected to open in March, about a year after ground was broken on the $200 million project, White said. Officials say they plan to ramp up to full production over a five-year period, company officials have said.
The manufacturing facility is expected to directly employ 1,400 workers once it’s fully operational.
