Helen Smith Couch, age 89, died on December 7, 2013 in Spanish Fort AL. Born in Acworth GA, she married Cecil P. Couch of Senoia GA in 1944. Helen was a long-standing member of the Michael O’Neal Singers and the Atlanta Choral Guild and sang in many church choirs. She volunteered as a music therapist at Clayton County Hospital and in 1973 was chosen Clayton Country Citizen of the Year in the field of art. An accomplished skier, golfer and ice skater, she also directed the Miss Clayton County Beauty Pageant for 16 years. Helen was predeceased by her husband Cecil “Pete” Couch, her parents Monnie and James Lemon Smith, and siblings Jean Fortson, Sallie Bernhardt, Anne Nelson, Larry Smith and James Lemon Smith, Jr. She is survived by her son Michael, daughter Beth Knight, grandchildren Jessica Knight and Mary Knight Baker, great grandson Indiana Baker, sister Nancy Maxwell and brother William M. Smith.  A memorial service will be held at 2 pm on Sunday, January 26 at the Acworth United Methodist Church, 4340 Collins Circle, Acworth GA 30101. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Covenant Hospice, 1040 Stanton Rd, Daphne AL 36526.
