Dr. Keith Contarino, Caretaker of our Best Friends for nearly 30 years. Although Keith Contarino was not a native of Georgia, he quickly developed an infectious love for the state upon moving here after graduating from the University of Virginia to attend the University of Georgia’s College of Veterinary Medicine. Upon graduation in 1984, Dr. Contarino started practice in Cobb County and continued for over three decades, taking care of not just the furry friends in our homes but devoting thousands of hours to animal shelters across the state while rooting for his beloved Bulldogs sports teams in all their endeavors on the weekends. Dr. Contarino eventually started a mobile vet practice to be able to attend to sick animals in their homes and save owner’s a stressful trip to the clinic. In his spare time, Keith was also an avid comic book collector and historian, penning dozens of articles for collector’s magazines and becoming an advisor to Overstreet’s Comic Book Price Guide. He could frequently be seen and collector’s conventions across the south trading everything from Donald Duck to Superman and educating fellow collectors on the history of the hobby. Dr. Contarino passed away December 6, 2013 and is survived by his wife Amy, and his two sons David, 28, and Daniel, 25, of Marietta. Services will be held at 1pm Friday at the Medford-Peden Funeral home in Marietta, and the family will be hosting a visitation Thursday evening from 6:30 – 8:30pm

I am so very sad to learn the Dr. C passed away! I did not know about this. He was so wonderful with our dogs over the years and I don't know how we would have gotten through the passing of 3 of out seniors back in 2009-2011. He is dearly missed!

The world has lost such a sweet compassionate soul! I am just learning of Dr. C's passing, and my heart felt like it literally dropped when I read about his passing. So many people and so many animals were fortunate to have known him and love him. He cared deeply for each and every animal in his care, and every owner's concern was his thoughtful concern, never trivial. He was an incredible veterinarian and wonderful caring human being. His passing will certainly leave a void in so many hearts.

Dee, I am betting you don't remember me, but we did Greyhound rescue together around 25 years ago. How did we meet? Dr. C of course. :)

I am still in rescue. Dr. C was the start of it all.

We are just distraught. We just heard about Dr. Contarino's passing today - Feb. 17, 2014. We LOVED Dr. Contarino and looked forward to our annual visit for shots. I cannot say how pained we are to hear this sad news. He was a phenomenal person and the kindest veterinarian. We never wanted to see any other. He radiated compassion. He was so considerate with our pets and we SO enjoyed talking to him. He was a very interesting person, one of a kind. We are in pain and wish to extend our sincerest condolences to his family. He is sorely missed in this household.
