Formed in 1986, Big Chicken Chorus is a nonprofit organization that performs a cappella barbershop harmony. The 60-member chorus is comprised of amateurs from different walks of life.
“We’ve got a cross-section of love songs that some you’ll recognize and some you won’t. There will be traditional love songs, and some that you’ve never heard before,” said east Cobb resident Sandy Sanders, a member of the chorus since 1998.
The chorus will feature different music such as patriotic, gospel and new songs.
“There’s a little variety for everybody,” he said.
The last spring show by the chorus was 10 years ago.
“We decided to go ahead and do (a spring show) because the majority of our audience that comes faithfully to our Christmas show hasn’t heard us sing anything but Christmas music. That’s why we decided to put our show on,” said Sanders, who works for Golf Wear Plus.
The chorus will perform with three quartets. They will also feature the Boardwalk Quartet as their guest. Moby in the Morning will emcee the event.
“It will be a lot of fun for a lot of people. It’s good family entertainment. It’s an original American art form,” said Sanders, who has sung barbershop for 35 years.
“We’re excited because this is our first time in the Marietta Performing Arts Center. It’s a fabulous center. We can’t wait to hear how our a cappella harmonies are going to resonate in that new theater. We think the sound is going to be just fabulous in there,” he said.
Marietta High School is at 1171 Whitlock Ave., Marietta.
