Communities In Schools of Marietta/Cobb County is partnering with Wal-Mart for a “Back to School Supply Drive” to provide needed school supplies to at-risk students between July 15 and Aug. 18.

CIS is working with three Wal-Mart locations — 6520 Ernest Barrett Parkway. in Marietta, 1133 East West Connector SW in Austell and 4166 Jimmy Lee Smith Parkway in Hiram.

“There are many students in our area who do not have the necessary school supplies to start school and this can affect them having a successful school experience,” said Carol Fey with CIS. “This Back to School Supply Drive will help to provide those much needed supplies and give everyone in the community an opportunity to help provide for those needy students in our community.”

Items needed include packs of paper, glue sticks, boxes of crayons, packs of pencils and spiral-bound notebooks.

The supply drive will also feature a “Build a Backpack Twitter Sweepstakes,” where CIS will give away backpacks filled with school supplies provided courtesy of Wal-Mart.

Supplies can also be dropped off at the CIS office at 316 Alexander St., Suite 5, in Marietta.

Sweet but why?

These are the same students who were on government WIC since the day they were born and are on the free government breakfast and lunch program. Well, it isn't free at all to those of us who pay taxes. It boggles my mind how people have children they can't afford because the taxpayers will take care of them. I am all for people who are down on their luck and need a little help. For those so called parents who live off the system to support YOUR children, shame on you!
