Patrick is a regular at Sam’s BBQ-1. He and his family stopped by on July 2 for dinner. Huff met Patrick two years ago on the set of “Jayne Mansfield’s Car” where Sam’s BBQ-1 served as food stylists, preparing the food used in some of the scenes. Patrick has been a frequent visitor at the restaurant ever since.
“Jayne Mansfield’s Car” premiered in Berlin and it will be released in the U.S. this fall, according to Huff. Patrick is reported to be in town filming scenes for the film “Endless Love.” Last month he was here for scenes in “True Blood” where he plays a werewolf. “Trouble With the Curve” is now airing on TV that he filmed in Georgia last year, with Clint Eastwood and John Goodman.
Patrick is a Marietta native. His mother attended Marietta High School. Huff says he is an ardent supporter of the troops, having made numerous trips to the Middle East with the USO.
Southern Living ranked Sam’s BBQ-1 as one of the “Best Rib-Stickin’ Joints” in its June 2013 issue, and Garden & Gun Magazine in its June/July 2013 issue featured Sam’s college of barbecue in Barbecue 101: Pork U.
Sam’s BBQ-1 is located at 4944 Lower Roswell Road, Marietta. For more information, call (770) 977-3005 or visit bbq1.net.
“Mamma Mia” is playing July 11 at 8 p.m. at the Earl Smith Strand Theatre. Set on the Greek island of Kalokairi to a background of ABBA songs, drama ensues when a soon-to-be young bride discovers that any one of three men (Pierce Brosnan, Stellan Skarsgård and Colin Firth) could be her father. She invites all three to her wedding without telling her mother (Meryl Streep). Lyrics will be displayed at the bottom of the screen.
A Bottomless Wine Party and Silent Auction will be at 6:30 p.m. to benefit the Strand’s Arts Education Programs. The cost is $30 per person. Visit earlsmithstrand.org for more information.
