SMYRNA — Two men exchanged gunshots across parking lots near the Cumberland area Tuesday afternoon, then fled before Cobb Police arrived at the scene.

Sgt. Dana Pierce said Cobb Police received a report about shots being fired at 1:20 p.m. at the intersection of Circle 75 Parkway and Windy Hill Road, near the Knights Inn and Suites in Smyrna.

“These guys were exchanging shots and running everywhere,” Pierce said.

Cobb Police detained two individuals Tuesday afternoon, but both people had been released by that evening, Pierce said.

“Any time you have shots fired, you are going to have every car in that precinct responding,” Pierce said about all the police units in the area responding.

Originally, Cobb Police were looking for a white van that had reportedly fled the scene. But, Pierce said, they are now searching for a white Dodge Nitro, a type of boxy SUV.

Pierce did not know if the vehicle had Georgia tags and said the information came from witnesses who were taking cover during the exchange of gunfire.

No injuries were reported.

Pierce said police dogs were called out to search the area, but nothing, and nobody, were found.

Exchanging gunfire at 1:20pm on a Tuesday. Obviously these guys aren't doing anything productive with their lives. Failures all around.
