Cobb Police are investigating a fatal pedestrian collision that occurred on Interstate 285 in Atlanta on Sunday night.

Thirty-year-old Harry Maurent of Austell was struck and killed when he attempted to cross a ramp after his car ran out of gas while he was heading west on the Perimeter.

According to the Cobb County Police Department, Maurent pulled his 2008 black Nissan Versa onto the gore between the interstate and the ramp from Interstate 75. He then climbed out of his car and headed back toward the exit on foot.

Maurent was hit by what investigators believe was a light-colored, mid-sized pickup truck or SUV. The driver — who has not been identified — may have been driving a Saturn SUV, according to police. After the driver fled the scene, police say three more cars struck Maurent while he laid on the ramp. Investigators say all three of these drivers have cooperated fully with police in the aftermath of the incident.

Police have asked for the public’s help in identifying both the driver and the vehicle that initially hit the victim. They claim the front end of the vehicle in question is likely to have sustained noticeable damage. Anyone with information regarding this pedestrian fatality is asked to call (770) 499-3987.
