Go enjoy a Brew with a View and hear Bellwether Station tonight at the Earl Smith Strand Theatre on the Marietta Square.

The audience can enjoy scenes of Glover Park from the Strand’s top level event room and its accompanying Cobb Terrace from 6 to 10 p.m.

Bellwether Station, an all-lawyer band, has been together since 2009. The band plays roots, rock-n-roll and alternative country.

“Our music is something in between Bruce Springsteen and Johnny Cash,” said Bobby Johnson of Marietta, who plays bass and sings.

Band members Johnson, Chris Fox (vocals/guitar) and Cobb County resident David Garner (vocals/guitar) practiced law together previously at the Atlanta firm of Swift, Currie, McGhee, & Hiers. “We decided to get together and rehearse some songs (Chris Fox) had written,” Johnson said.

Chris Kelly, a lawyer at Alston & Bird in Atlanta, plays the drums.

The band took its name from Fox’s hometown of Bruceton, Tenn. The town is in a bellwether county, which generally has the same presidential election outcomes as the national results.

“What (a bellwether county) means is however that the county has voted historically in the presidential election so has gone the national election. It’s an indicator. That vote in that town or county is consistent with the general election,” said Johnson who has a wife, Samantha, and daughter, Mary Wells.

Bellwether Station has recently cut a new self-titled album with 12 original songs.

“We throw in a good cover song every now and then that always seems to get the crowd fired up. We have a lot of fun onstage and create a lot of energy,” Johnson said.

The Strand is at 117 N Park Square in Marietta.
