Donald Butler Armstrong, 81, of Acworth, died Tuesday, September 17, 2013. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 Friday afternoon at the graveside in Liberty Hill Cemetery. Mr. Armstrong was the fourth generation of his family to grow up in the Allatoona-Acworth area. He graduated from Cassville High School and started his working career at Sears Roebuck. He was later employed with Ashmore Meats and Lockheed Georgia Corp. He ended his career as shipping director for Kirk-Rudy Inc., in Kennesaw, where he was employed for 25 years. Don was a devoted and loving husband, father, and grandfather. He was an avid reader and outdoor enthusiast and loved Civil War history. He served for 8 consecutive years as president of the North Georgia Civil War Relic Hunters Association. Mr. Armstrong was a member of the Acworth Presbyterian Church. He was preceded in death by his wife of 55 years, Sara Holland Armstrong, and is survived by his daughter and son in law, Donna Armstrong and Norman Lackey of Roopville; grandchildren, Austin Thomas Lackey and Sierra Brooke Lackey, both of Roopville; sisters, Marilyn Strain of Fairmount and Carolyn Deal of Bonham, TX; several nieces and nephews also survive. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Acworth Presbyterian Church 4561 Church St. Acworth, GA 30101.
