The Atlanta Lyric Theatre is the metro area’s only professional musical theater company. Go order your tickets to their exciting 35th season at the Jennie T. Anderson Theatre, 548 S. Marietta Parkway, Marietta.

“Spamalot,” playing June 13 to 29, marks the end of the Lyric’s 34th season. The musical comedy is the winner of three Tony Awards including Best Musical. “Spamalot” is “lovingly ‘ripped off’ from” Monty Python and the Holy Grail. It tells the famous tale of King Arthur and the Knights of the Round Table and their quest for the Holy Grail.

“We listen to our audiences when it comes to selection of programming,” said Artistic Director and General Manager Brandt Blocker.

On the lineup for season 35 is “Chicago,” a show audiences have clamored for and that took seven years of licensing requests to secure; “Cats,” a perennial favorite; “Damn Yankees,” a nod to the Braves relocation to Cobb County; the regional premiere of “Catch Me If You Can;” and “Barnum,” the classic big top musical featuring the story of PT Barnum set within a circus.

On Dec. 5-14, the Lyric will also bring back “Sanders Family Christmas,” now in its 15th year, at First United Methodist Church of Marietta.

On Dec. 20 and 21, the Lyric will perform a Christmas show titled “Sleigh Bells Swing,” its first venture at the Cobb Energy Performing Arts Centre, featuring Duke Ellington’s “Nutcracker Suite” and big band holiday favorites made famous by Bing Crosby, Dean Martin, Gene Autry, Burl Ives, Perry Como, Brenda Lee and many more.

“It’s a very exciting season for us,” Blocker said.

The Lyric is synonymous with quality, professional musical theater.

“Our audiences have grown exponentially because they know that we are going to provide an enjoyable outing to the theater. We have the best patrons in the world, so we work very hard to give back to them the very best in professional entertainment,” he said.

“We believe that we (the Lyric) present a quality of life component to the reason folks live, work, and play in our community. After 34 years, our metro area would not be the same without The Lyric. We appreciate the patronage and support of our community that has sustained us for so many years.”

“Thank you to the Marietta and Cobb County community for supporting their professional musical theater company. We look forward to many more years to come,” Blocker said.
