What started out as a movie night has grown into a large carnival that includes food, games, silent auction, moonwalks and other entertainment. After dark, the movie “Soul Surfer” will be shown at the event that is open to the public. ESPN correspondent and author of “God and Football,” Chad Gibbs, will speak at the event.
“Over 1,000 people come each year,” said Charlotte Wilhoit, a parent sponsor of FCA at LMS. “The event is an opportunity for the kids to come and hang out with friends in a Christian atmosphere. It’s also an opportunity for us also to reach out to the community and spread the word of Christ.”
Her child, Blair, is one of the 21 FCA leaders at the school. The group is the largest interdenominational school-based Christian sports organization in the U.S., according to www.fcanwm.org.
Two-hundred fifty students attend the FCA meetings each Friday morning before school starts. Any student is welcome to attend.
“You don’t have to be an athlete to come,” Wilhoit said. “Anybody is welcome to be involved. We believe it’s important for the kids in the school to hear about Christ. The ministry is the heartbeat of the school.”
LMS is located at 3825 Luther Ward Road in Powder Springs. Visit www.cobbk12.org/lovinggood for more information.
