Running mates blog  04/23/2008
This year's Super Bowl took place with the ``Super Tuesday'' primary as the backdrop two days later. The nationwide primary was supposed to anoint the presidential nominees for both parties. Now, unbelievably, we are on the eve of the second-most-watched event on the NFL calendar - its annual college player draft - and it's still anybody's guess who the Democratic nominee will be.

Kesting blog  04/15/2008
Southwest Cobb Commissioner Annette Kesting held a press conference on Marietta Square on Friday, no doubt in hopes of ``putting to bed'' the controversy that erupted after her remarks at a February Black History awareness at Pleasant Grove Missionary Baptist Church in Marietta were reported in the media last week. In those remarks, she complained about the ``evilness'' on the third floor of the county commission offices where she works, said her coworkers are not Christian and lamented having to work with ``white women'' there.

Obama blog  03/26/2008
Barack Obama is - or was - the candidate who wants to move us beyond race, the candidate who transcends race. But his decades-long membership in the church pastored by the inflammatory Rev. Jeremiah Wright, shows that Obama likely differs only in style, not in substance, from the likes of Jesse Jackson and Al Sharpton.

VP Blog  03/11/2008
Now that Arizona U.S. Sen. John McCain has wrapped up the GOP presidential nomination, he must turn to the business of selecting a running mate. And who should that be? Among the names being bandied about are those of Minnesota Gov. Tim Pawlenty, South Carolina U.S. Sen. Lindsey Graham, Rudy Giuliani, Mitt Romney and Mike Huckabee.

Water Blog  02/27/2008
The Cobb County Board of Commissioners unanimously approved a drought-response plan on Tuesday that will allow limited outdoor watering starting March 1.

TAD blog  02/18/2008
The Georgia Supreme Court ruled last week that local governments cannot use school tax revenues to help underwrite redevelopment efforts via Tax Allocation District subsidies. Those subsidies have proven highly controversial in Marietta and Cobb in recent years, as regular MDJ readers know.

Coaches blog  02/11/2008
A trio of coaching legends at Marietta High School is on the hot seat this week, courtesy of Superintendent Dr. Emily Lembeck and principal Leigh Colburn.

Kennedys blog  01/30/2008
Presidential candidate Barack Obama made an interesting - and perhaps provocative - statement the other day in the course of being endorsed by Sen. Ted Kennedy and Caroline Kennedy Schlossberg, the daughter of late President John F. Kennedy.

Legislature Blog  01/18/2008
There is no shortage of issues awaiting the Georgia General Assembly during this year's session now getting under way. Among them is Speaker Glenn Richardson's GREAT Plan to do away with property taxes on school and replace them with a sales tax; the effort to bail out troubled Grady Hospital in Atlanta and figuring out what to do about the metro area's traffic congestion, which seems to grow worse by the day.

Predictions blog  01/07/2008
It's the time of year for making predictions. Here are some of mine for 2008:
