MARIETTA - It's almost surprising Kim Gresh had time to be honored as Marietta's Citizen of the Year yesterday.
When she's not running S.A. White Oil Company, of which she is president, she may be working as a trustee for the Wellstar Foundation. Or raising money as a Friend of the Strand Theatre. Or volunteering on the board of MUST Ministries. Or participating in the Marietta Metro Rotary Club.
Or, she may be putting up her usual 15 Christmas trees, or planning her Christmas parties - she will host four this year.
"I try to get as much done for the community and my business in my 24 hours," she said. "I don't sleep because then I'll miss something."
Alexis Amaden, who owns the Whitlock Inn, worked with Ms. Gresh on MUST Ministries' Gobble Jog. Ms. Gresh, she said, "really puts her money where her mouth is."
"She's awesome," Ms. Amaden said.
The keynote speaker at yesterday's breakfast was a voice many are familiar with.
Eric Zeier is the color analyst for the University of Georgia's away football games on UGA radio. Zeier, a 1991 graduate of Marietta High School, was an all-American quarterback at Georgia. He also played six years in the National Football League. He retired from playing in 2002.
Now Zeier is CEO of Team Doctors Preferred Access in Duluth. The firm helps people access doctors used by top sports teams across the nation.
Zeier shared lessons he's learned on the football field and applied in the business world. Setting goals and attitude are two key plays for him, Zeier said.
"My goal since I was 10 years old was to be the best football player that ever played," he said. "I knew if I wanted to capture that, everything had to change … if I wanted to have any career my comfort zone had to change."
Edith Boy, chair of the Marietta Area Council, asked Zeier which bowl game UGA is heading to this year.
Zeier's prediction: UGA has a good chance for the Rose Bowl or the Orange Bowl. Both are part of the Bowl Championship Series.
