MARIETTA - She didn't win the crown, but reigning Miss Cobb County, Christina McCauley of Marietta, said she was proud of placing third runner-up in the 64th annual Miss Georgia Pageant on Saturday in Columbus.
McCauley, 19, finished in the final five of the competition, in which 38 young women from around the state competed for the title of Miss Georgia.
"I couldn't have been more proud than about how I did tonight," said McCauley.
Miss Capitol City Chasity Hardman was crowned Miss Georgia.
However, McCauley was the evening's overall winner in the evening wear competition last night. She wore a strapless white gown for that contest.
Chuck Fallis, Miss Cobb County pageant spokesman, said McCauley received a huge round of applause from the audience for her talent performance.
She sang,"Italian Street Song," from Victor Herbert's "Naughty Marietta" operetta.
"She was across the board in all the categories and scored really high," said Fallis.
"Of course, we would have liked to won Miss Georgia, but the Cobb board couldn't be prouder."
Presently, the 2006 graduate of Pebblebrook High School is a junior studying music at Birmingham Southern College in Birmingham, Ala.
She said she will continue to compete in pageant competitions.
The overall winner of the pageant qualifies to compete in January for the Miss America crown in Las Vegas.
Not since 1987 has a contestant from Cobb won the Miss Georgia pageant.
The last Miss Cobb contestant to place as high as McCauley in the state pageant was Christine Perry in 1998, when she was third runner-up.

If you ain't first, you're last.
Hey, Thanks for the nice article about Christina. I was in attendance with the Miss Cobb Board and we are so very, very proud of her. ----------------------- I would like to make one note to you-the headline to the article is incorrect. It says that she placed 4th-she placed 3rd. Also, it was not in the article but she not only won Evening Gown in her group but won Overall Evening Gown for the three nights.
Obviously Ricky Bobby is an idiot who has never tried anything.
congrats
