MARIETTA - William Wynne made his mark in the hurdles during the 2006 high school track and field season, winning the Class AAAAA state championship in the 300-meter hurdles.
The McEachern phenom, who was competing for the Marietta-based Titans Track Club, was just as successful competing in a less-familiar event, as he won the Intermediate Boys 400-meter dash at the Georgia Games Track and Field Championships at the Marietta High School track Saturday.
Wynne crossed the finish line with a time of 47.48 seconds to win the Intermediate Boys 400 and make it a clean sweep of the top three spots for the Titans, with Kell's Eric Harris finishing second (50.16) and Charles Flewellen placing third (50.28).
Harris was a little more successful in the Intermediate Boys 200, winning with a time of 22.57 to beat out runner-up Joel Shumate (23.40) and third-place finisher Johnathan Ross (23.61).
Wynne and Harris were among several Titans athletes to win their events, with Pope's Zandi DeBowles winning the Young Women long jump (5.31 meters), Chris Floyd the Sub-Bantam Boys 100 (15.08) and 200 (31.58), Nyambi Shoates the Bantam Girls 800 (2:44.29), Chelsea Crayton the 400-meter dash (1:06.91) and Elisea Jones the Bantam Girls 200 (29.04) and long jump (3.34 meters).
It was also a good day for the East Cobb Track Club with victories in seven events - four girls and three boys.
The East Cobb girls winners were Kendell Williams in the Midget Girls high jump (1.35 meters), Simmie Bray in the Youth Girls 200 (26.22), Gabrielle Piper in the Youth Girls 100 hurdles (15.94), the team of Amber Lewis, Crystin Robinson, Shanel Burr and Remel Williams in the Bantam Girls 400-meter relay (56.27), the team of Uryiah Lucas, Amber Lewis, Shanel Burr, Remel Williams in the Bantam Girls 1,600-meter relay (4:36.29) and Alexandria McGee in the Intermediate Girls high jump (1.50 meters).
East Cobb boys winners were Kenneth Brinson in the Bantam Boys Shot Put (23-4½) and Devon Williams in the Midget Boys 80-meter hurdles (12.73).
Joining Wynne, Harris and DeBowles among the Cobb high school track standouts who won their events was Kennesaw Mountain's Kimber Shealey in the Young Women pole vault (10 feet, 6 inches).
