In seeking an injunction preventing Cobb County from continuing to violate the laws of the state of Georgia, local immigration activist D.A. King exercised his God-given right to insist on strict obedience to the law.

He has, in fact, decided to "fight city hall," as the old saying goes. He is to be commended and the lawful citizens of Cobb need to get behind him in his efforts to force the county to comply with the law.

It is a sad commentary on our county officials when, instead of working to comply with the law, they justify their noncompliance by trying to cloud the issue with semantics. If one searches the county code regarding business licenses, one finds that the terms "license" and "certificate" both refer to, in essence, a permit to do business, the possession of which is required to legally conduct business in unincorporated Cobb.

Whether it is called a "license" or a "certificate" matters not. The litmus test in this issue is so simple that anyone with reasoning power beyond that of a fence post can easily comprehend it: "Can one legally operate a business and collect revenue, within unincorporated Cobb County, without having applied for and received a business license/occupational certificate?"

If the answer is, "Yes, one can do so," then the county is guilty of extortion in deluding businesses into believing otherwise, simply to collect fees.

If the answer is, "No, they cannot," then, regardless of what name you give it, it is most assuredly a license to do business and is therefore a public benefit and subject to regulation under the Georgia Security and Immigration Compliance Act.

County officials are asking us to believe the law is written so a hypothetical Vietnam veteran who wants to open a poolroom must have his citizenship, or legal alien status, verified before he can open his business. But, an illegal alien or international terrorist can open a dry-cleaning establishment next door to him simply by filling out a piece of paper and paying a fee. No questions asked, no verification required.

I have a hard time believing our lawmakers are stupid enough to make such a law. If they, in fact, did write and pass such a law, then we have problems equal in scale to the illegal immigration crisis downtown under the gold dome.

Most patriotic Americans have all but given up hope the federal government is going to take action to stem the illegal immigrant invasion. Both leading candidates for the highest office in the land are practicing old-fashioned, spineless bootlicking in an attempt to gain the approval of the illegals. We hardly need our local government, our first line of defense, ignoring the laws in effect.

Both King and Cobb Commission Chairman Sam Olens are men of integrity and high moral standards. The difference in the two is simple. King is a citizen interested in seeing that the law is enforced, especially, as it applies to illegal aliens. Olens is a politician who has, in this case, as in the matter of the continued relationship of the county with the Facilities Management Group, received some poor and biased counsel. It would behoove him to seek outside counsel on both these issues, lest he be caught in a web of personal culpability when the final gavel sounds.

The illegal alien invasion has taken its toll on Cobb. Our educational facilities have been "dumped down" to accommodate people who have not learned or will not learn to communicate in English. Our social programs are all but drained of resources by their attempts to meet the increasing needs of indigent illegal aliens. Crime is increasing rapidly. Communities are inundated with multifamily occupation of single-family dwellings, with the resulting decline in property values. The ability of lawful workers to earn a livable wage has fallen victim to the illegal workers simply because people who do not pay taxes and who milk the community for survival can work for less than law-abiding, tax-paying citizens. Our business areas have become unofficial "hiring halls," with illegal aliens loitering on the streets hoping to be hired by someone looking for cheap labor.

Is this a description of the Cobb in which you wish to live, work and rear your children? It certainly is the antithesis of all that attracted me when I moved here almost 25 years ago.

If you are content to see Cobb turned into a second-rate, multilingual, multicultural gathering place for indigents and law-breakers, then do nothing.

If, on the other hand, you are as dissatisfied with these conditions as many of us are, you will support efforts to force our officials into compliance with the laws meant to control the illegal invasion. Let our elected officials know we are (to paraphrase a line from the movie "Network") "Mad as hell and not going to take it any more."

I am happy to see that there is somebody else on King's side - the side of the American taxpayer and voter. Olens is spending more money and time fighting compliance with this obviously clear law than he would have if he had just done the right and legal thing and obeyed it. We should all be asking "why"?. We should all be asking questions about recalling the officials, including Olens, who struggle so hard to NOT obey the law. Great column...and good for D.A. King.

If we don't get behind this movement to enforce our own laws, we are taking steps forward to allow our Country to be run by others. Look at Britain, and other European countries...they are all allowing others to follow their own set of laws and they are alarmingly falling under the rule of Sharia law. We are next...please do not allow it!!!

D.A. King is an American hero! California is broke and going down the tubes due to anarchy. The gangs, crime, and lawlessness in California is mostly due to the behavior of corrupt politicians who claim to champion enforcing our laws but in actuality wish to place a halt to ICE immigration enforcement raids in Los Angeles. Illegal aliens and their American born children are potentially a boon to their political careers. In Maywood California Americans don't dare even think of buying a home in that neighborhood or others like it. This is not the America I grew up in.

D. King! This is actually brilliant, and should help in setting precidence for others. You are, of course, absolutely correct, although I hadn't reasoned this way before I read your article. Good job!

Once again we have selective enforcement of immigration laws. The problem is these laws are written without either enforcement or funding provisions, so they are paper laws only. It's classic bait and switch as legislators write these toothless laws to get the public off their backs, then it's just back to business as usual. Throw them out in November if you want real change.

I am not surprised to see our elected public servants trying to circumvent the laws they swore to uphold. I am surprised to see a mainstream news publication actually publish an article in support of enforcing American laws and curtailing the illegal alien invasion. Good work, Mr. Borden, MDJ Online, and especially D.A. King!
Mr.Lee says -
Sir I totally agree with you
I knew Dustin Inman says -
He was killed 8 years ago at age 16 because most government officials refused to enforce our immigration laws. An illegal alien killed him. How many more Americans must die before our elected officials "get it"? The fact that Cobb County doesn't do everything it can to keep illegals out of my county will never be forgotten. This lawsuit is good - it will make the "elite" show us exactly where their heart and pocket book is. I am a young American woman who is going to the protest rally D.A. is doing in front of the Cobb Commissioners meeting on Tuesday and I am mad as HE**! WE WILL NEVER FORGET THIS, NO MATTER WHAT WORDS ARE USED FOR A BUSINESS LICENSE! Janice B

Great column! So true!

Outstanding Mr. Borden. Simply outstanding. It is the rule of law and due process which helps to make America great. It is way past time to depend on our elected officials in DC and set our own local standards which is what has been done. Now we all must live by the laws those standards have created. Kudos to you and D.A. King for fighting the good fight. Best regards

The words in this column and the ideas of D. A. King are those that would place the majority of citizens - patriotic, law abiding American citizens - squarely behind any political candidate. Yet so few of our public leaders will express these widely popular views. Why? Public figures are afraid to become targeted by the looney left who love to shout "Racist!" or "Jingoist!" at anybody who doesn't bow at the altar of political correctness. Kudos to both Pete Borden and D. A. King, men who are not afraid of having labels hurled at them by fools who place the "rights" of non-citizen aliens before the rights of Americans.
Pat says -
Let's get behind DA's effort and clean up our county, and then look to the State and Feds to follow. Our Sheriff led the way, and we demand no less of our commissioners. The Chamber of Commerce is the problem and slave labor is the reason.
Enter Your Name says -
D.A. King and his ilk are closet racists and should be run out of town on a rail before we develop a typical cracker reputation her in Cobb.

Great Artical Pete, you are so right... Do Nothing and Everything Stays the Same... Or (to paraphrase Pete's artical) Get Mad as Hell and Not Going to Take it Anymore The illegal Alien Invasion will not stop on its own. Please support DA King in stopping the invasion. Stand up for Cobb County and Georgia. Let's make Our Cobb County Government follow the laws with which they were written. It isn't cheap when you look into the future and see how doing nothing, makes no sence. Thanks Pete
Charles Reichert says -
Sounds like a no brainer to me.
Uncle Sam of Dekalb County says -
Thanks DA KING and Dustin Inman Society along with the many people such as myself who are calling and looking around during our off time foe the violations of the laws in our counties. We must hold all county officials accountable for all pro-illegal alien actions they are making. Most US citizens do not live behind a gate. Our children and families are all being effected and exposed to illegal aliens all over Georgia. We are under the most corrupt Governments in the History of the USA !
j s rocca says -
Historians will read the downfall of USA and say "They saw it coming and did nothing about it" Our very own elected officials are destroying the future of our country. THis is an invasion of people of different culture, language who already feel entitled to free schools, medical care, pay no taxes and are being indoctrinated into hatred of legal U S citizens (Read LA RAZA) and being taught that THIS IS THEIR COUNTRY. Meanwhile their own countries are not pressured to improve! All the seeds for civil strife, insurrection are being planted, sunned and watered NOW!
