Mount Paran used 12 different rushers to rack up 349 yards on the ground, 322 came in the first half. Senior Kevin Hughes led Mount Paran with four carries for 101 yards including a 2-yard scoring dive in the 2nd quarter.
"We spend a lot of time running the option and working on it during practice" said Mount Paran coach Mitch Jordan. "Zack (Greenwell) does a great job running this offense. I believe in this system, and whenever our players are prepared, they'll respond like they did tonight."
Mount Paran was certainly ready for Friday's game. The contest began with North Cobb Christian quarterback Christian Hunt being sacked on three straight plays by a Mount Paran defense led by linebacker John-Pierce McKay. On the ensuing possession for Mount Paran, senior tailback David Ian rushed 53 yards for a touchdown on his team's first play from scrimmage.
On the resulting kickoff, Mount Paran placekicker Dallas Kepler booted a high, floating kick down the right sideline, which was recovered by junior Connor Claussen, setting up Mount Paran at the North Cobb Christian 10-yard line.
Mount Paran wasted no time tacking on another touchdown as quarterback Zack Greenwell skipped in untouched on the drive's first play.
On North Cobb Christian's next drive, Hunt was intercepted on a screen pass by Ryan Sheffield, who had a clear path to the end zone, and Mount Paran led 20-0 after running only two plays on offense.
A bright spot for North Cobb Christian came in the second quarter when Hunt connected with senior wideout Matt Pile on a 53 yard touchdown pass that was nearly intercepted by Mount Paran's Landon Bentley.
Mount Paran was scoring early and often though, and Jordan's team added touchdowns from Ian, Greenwell, Bentley, Kevin Hughes, and Keith Johnson before running a time consuming, conservative game plan in the 2nd half.
"Our guys have been through this before, but we have to keep working on the things we do well" said North Cobb Christian coach Harry Miles, whose team won their first game in school history last week. "We'll keep pushing through."
For Mount Paran, Jordan maintains a goal-oriented spirit for his team's future.
"We wanted to be 2-0" Jordan said. "We got better tonight, but we have a great test waiting for us with Haralson County next week. We want to make the postseason every year, and that game will be a big part of that goal."
Mount Paran will be at home for their matchup with Haralson County next week. while North Cobb Christian will travel to Fellowship Christian.
