On illegal immigration, the anti-enforcement crowd on both the right and left continually spouts the mindless nonsense that illegal aliens “are only taking jobs that Americans won’t do…” Then they tell us the solution to the crimes of illegal immigration and illegal employment is to repeat the failed amnesty/legalization, path-to-citizenship program of 1986. Transforming the illegal aliens into… Americans.
Got that?
Locally, our ever-dependable foil, MDJ blogger Kevin Foley, qualifies as one of the above “path-to-citizenship-is-the-answer” described lefties.
In a comment post on a recent blog from yours truly, Foley challenges an old friend, Leah Durant, to produce information showing that illegals take jobs from Americans with “I'd love to see the independent data supporting Ms. Durant's assertion that undocumented workers are stealing American jobs.” As long as this character keeps lobbing hanging softballs over the plate, we will continue to smack them into the bleachers.
It is said that a picture is worth a thousand words. We think video is worth even more.

And for the members of the Cobb BOC who need encouragement to implement an ordinance requiring that all public contractors be certified through the federal IMAGE program. That no-cost process is opposed by the powerful business lobby including the Chamber of Commerce because it would serve to expose illegal aliens on the contractors payroll.

I realize that the undocumented pay taxes, your lecture on tax law is unnecessary. Many on the
right scream about the undocumented not paying taxes. I have attempted to explain to those who do the most screaming that they are wrong, but it becomes a waste of energy.
The number of young people who will benefit by the recently enacted new immigration policy was originally estimated to be 800,000. I don't care that it has increased to 2 million, the more the better. Not all who apply will be accepted.
The US remains the land of the free, that's why the desperate wish to come here.
AND, BTW - illegal aliens can already pay "taxes" (I assume you mean income taxes) with what is called an ITIN issued by the IRS. You prove here everyday that you have no idea wht you are blathering about. Do you have more than 2 points?
Should we just sell US citizenship worldwide to anyone who can "pay taxes"? Most illegals would qualify for a tax CREDIT Lib - they are here because they will work for lower wages than Americans and legal immigrants. They mostly make low wages and are a potential boon to liberals like you who want government to be the boss on who gets welfare - which they would get as soon as they became legal.
They already scam us out of BILLIONS on tax returns using the ITIN for bogus "child tax credits." You should read (and try to understand) more of King's columns.

We are taking more than a million legal immigrants every year Lib (and King reports we are taking another million or so guest workers)- just how many do you propose? And what "hate" names will you call people who want whatever your number is to be actually, you know, enforced?

A reasonable and sensible immigration policy is to stop attempting to ship "them" all back to where they come from and immediately streamline the immigration process to allow people to come here legally without miles of red tape and pounds of paperwork. The Dream Act was and is a program which would have done just that for a portion of the undocumented population but after ten years of consideration our congress failed to make the right decision. So in a very wise move President Obama used his power to install a similar program. I will call that a reasonable ans sensible program. The right wingers want the undocumented to pay taxes, with the newly installed program by President Obama, there are a million people who will now be able to work legally and pay taxes. There will always be people like you who are not satisfied that the US is becoming a country with a different complexion. Instead of hating the change, celebrate that change, open your mind and you may learn something.

Americans have always done construction and it was at one time a middle income job. My father was a carpenter and was earning $500.00 a week in the mid 1960s. Every supporter of illegal immigration and a path to amnesty should have to deal with the consequences of their position. Perhaps MDJ could outsource your job or find an educated illegal alien who would be more then willing to work for less.
Like Truman said, "It's a recession when your neighbor loses his job. It's a depression when you lose yours".
It is a sad day in America, when the party that was supposed to represent the working stiff is now as bad as the one that advocates for cheaper labor!

Not much has changed with road construction. Every time I pass a road construction crew, I notice there are still a lot of men on the job who are speaking Spanish.
I the past when the work on the intersection of Barret and Cobb Pkwy was underway of weeks, the trucks of CWM were surrounded by men speaking Spanish.
Young American men who have messed up in the past and do not have a clean record, would like to have these jobs.
These employers are not conforming to the E-Verify standards. I doubt they are using it. I doubt they er=are using IMAGE too.
Your use of chicken plant processing employment is false. It is, indeed , a hard job and if one could make the same money and face easier job conditions, who could blame them for doing so.
I have a young friend in Cherokee Co.,Alabama. The passing of the immigration law in Al. resulted in a number of illegal immigrants disappearing from the job. My young freind got hired in the chicken processing plant and was glad to get the job.

Hiring illegals at below market standard wages helps the employer with his bottom line, but is harmful to American workers. Contrary to what you say, there are many Ameicans who would be glad to have the jobs that once paid $12/hour and are now filled by illegals at $8 an hour.

Most of the workers were living 2 families to a house or trailer and they used our hospitals for medical teatment. For free. I saw all of this myself. One trailer had 15 yong men living in squalor sleeping on the floor and Cherokee County would do nothing about the code violation.

The situation of the undocumented immigrants is enomorous, so involved that a sensible solution cannot be agreed upon by our elected officials either at the local, state or federal level. The "wingers" continue to propose unenforceable programs like ""arrest and deport", a program which is doomed to fail because the infrastructure does not exist to support it.
The situation of the undocumented is akin to speeding, the police cannot stop all the speeders and every now and then many of us get a speeding ticket, especially in GA where speeding is part of the southern culture. Then a few days later we go right back to speeding.
The chicken processing plants employ lots and lots of undocumented workers, the government is impotent in its effort to stop it because of the scope of the situation. Each day any chicken plant hires new workers to perform the disgusting job of slaughtering chickens. On any day an American could go to any of those plants and get a job and they don't because it is disgusting work. So, I ask the question who will be willing to slaughter the chickens if the undocumented are not there?
I am not now nor have I ever been in favor of open borders. A reasonable and sensible policy of immigration is more palatable.
